A hardwood deck built across the entrance of a home, stepping down to ground level and turning the corner to meet the front door. The boards are laid to a consistent gap with a clean picture-frame edge, and the platform sits square to the brickwork.
A deck like this is as much about what you can't see — level bearers, properly spaced joists, fixings that won't lift or rust — as the finish on top. Get that right and it stays flat and quiet underfoot for years.
